The Cadet Program provides young people with solid information about the adult world they are preparing to enter. The program gives today's teenagers a chance to learn firsthand about a wide variety of careers and special interests, and is aimed at providing young people with information and experiences that will help them enter the adult world.

The Lompoc Police Department fully supports its Law Enforcement Cadet program and encourages any young person interested in the criminal justice field to contact their local police agency.

Facts about the Department's Cadet Program

Originally an Explorer post, Post #700 was founded in May, 1971, by Police Officers Bud Trimble and Richard De Lung. The youth program was developed as a means of getting young people interested in the law enforcement field and at the same time, improve communications between the Lompoc Police Department and city residents.

Cadet members learn about law enforcement by direct participation. After receiving the necessary training, Cadets are allowed to ride on patrol with the police officers and see first hand what law enforcement is all about.

Cadet Post Activities

Cadets participate in many fun and interesting police and civic activities that include the following:

  • Crowd and traffic control
  • Flower Festival and Christmas Parades
  • Ride-Along Program
  • Child Fingerprinting
  • AT&T Golf Pro-Am, which is held in Pebble Beach, California
  • Police DUI Checkpoints, and many other activities
