The City of Lompoc is pleased to invite the community to celebrate the grand opening of Thompson Park following an extensive renovation project made possible by the generosity of volunteers and grant funding.
This grand opening celebration honoring the volunteers and organizations that made the new Thompson Park possible will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, on the ball field at Thompson Park, 520 North S St.
Work began on the renovation project in November 2017, and is now complete.
Improvements to Thompson Park included creating Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – compliant accessible pathways to all park amenities, resurfacing the children’s play area, covering the Dwayne C. Fuggs BBQ Picnic Area with a shade structure, installing a new Thompson Park monument sign, planting trees, and putting a split-rail fence around the perimeter of the park.
Work on the ball field included: installing a new press box, bleachers with shade structures and dugout seating, gopher wire, an updated sprinkler system, new sod, concrete around the field, and a new scoreboard, as well as replacing the existing restrooms.
All of these upgrades totaled around $747,000, made possible through Housing-Related Parks Program (HRPP) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding awarded to the City of Lompoc.
